Sports Medicine Trainer
Appling HealthCare System is providing to the student athletes in our area the services of
a Sports Medicine Trainer. Brian Tuten began working with the county's athletes May of
this year.
The field of athletic training provides a major link between the sports program and the
medical community. An athletic trainer is directly responsible for all phases of health
care for an athlete. Athletic trainers prevent injuries for occurring, provide initial
first aid and injury management, evaluate injuries, design and supervise a timely and
effective program of rehabilitation that can facilitate a safe return of the athlete to
activity.
Mr. Tuten has a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from
Armstrong Atlantic State University. Brian became a certified athletic trainer in June of
1999. In 1997 and 1998 he worked with Savannah's professional indoor soccer team the
Rugrats. During 1998 and 1999 he worked as an athletic trainer with the Denver Broncos.
Brian is currently working on his Master of Science in Sports Medicine at Armstrong
Atlantic State University.
